Tin Jug Studio

STUDIO & GALLERY

Stepping through the little door in the big green gates, children and adults are delighted to find the courtyard garden and art studio.

The name: when the former coach house was converted into a studio and gallery, it was noticed that a fusty old tin jug on a big iron peg and filled with twigs, had managed to stay in place throughout the substantial restoration work. So, with a touch of humour, it was decided to call the intended gallery, 'Tin Jug Studio' (rather than 'The Rusty, Fusty Jug', 'The Auld Kettle', or any other assorted monikers!) But for a number of years this was County Offaly's only art gallery.

The first exhibition, called 'The Presence of Light', opened in November 2000. Ever since, the little gallery-within-a-garden has been welcoming established and emerging regional artists who wish to display and sell their artworks, in solo or group exhibitions. Summer exhibitions include displays of sculpture in the garden and paintings (under cover!) too.

Garden at Tinjug Studio

People often comment on the charming, cosy interior and lovely atmosphere: it is peaceful, calming and great for creativity. The semi-traditional interior, is nevertheless a highly adaptable space for art exhibitions, art classes, book launches, music and poetry evenings, short films nights, and gatherings with others who have an involvement or interest in the arts.
